A Cheat Sheet for Aligning Your Wardrobe with Pantone’s Colours of the Year 2021, Illuminating and Ultimate Gray
The American Colour Institute Pantone has announced the diktat for what will soon be the reigning colour palette in 2021. This year, it had named classic blue as its colour of the year, aimed at “instilling calm, confidence, and connection, this enduring blue hue highlights our desire for a dependable and stable foundation on which to build as we cross the threshold into a new era.” While we all know that little of the stability and dependability could eventually come true, we are holding on to this year’s selections (yes, they chose two, because one colour cannot stand against what 2020 has been), Illuminating and Ultimate Gray. Explaining the decision, Pantone stated on its website, “a marriage of color conveying a message of strength and hopefulness that is both enduring and uplifting.” The palette has already been spotted in the latest collections by Prada, Jacquemus, Gucci, Balmain, and Givenchy, and it goes without saying that it will form the manifesto for design and fashion decisions next year.
